EASTER SATURDAY 11th April 2009

This afternoon Colin and I decided to go to find a Geocache in La Grande Briere.

It was a beautiful sunny day, Colin had inserted the co-ordinates in our trusty

tom tom we call Jessie. We thought this would take us to a car park but we ended in a village which was near the National Park we were heading for.

We drove around for a while then inserted the co-ordinates for the actual cache, we were miles away.

Let me say here that this cache was a series of questions which, if you are right gives you the co-ordinates of the cache, if you are wrong you could end up anywhere. Nevertheless Colin had worked out that the roof of the cottages were thatched, the name of the boats were les chalands, along with other questions.

Fortunately we arrived at the right place which was very pretty and tranquil and we found the cache easily.

We headed back home via Pontchateau as I had never been there and had seen the name so many times. Imagine my surprise when we stopped just before Pontchateau at a place called Le Calvaire. We parked the car and headed for a closer look at a statue I saw in the distance. It was one of many statues and grottos in a park area stated as being an area of tranquillity and silence.

All the large permanent Religious displays depicted the Easter story in sequence, I felt privileged to be there especially at Easter and I felt that I had my own private service. A beautiful experience and we intend to return again.

We managed to find a website which gives a more in-depth coverage of this wonderful area. ( www.calvairedepontchateau.com ) go onto Archives or Les Sites Religieux .
