Blain is a small market town with lots of character and full of friendly people. It is deep in the rural part of the Loire Atlantique France. We are a short drive from the western coast and on the edge of a large forest. (location see "contact us")
Nearby runs the Nantes/Brest canal which in summer is used by holiday boats and in winter an abundance of wild life, kingfishers and river ottters being the the most interesting to sit and watch at play.
There are many beautiful walks and cycle rides through the forest and along the canal.
The city of Nantes is a steady 40 min. drive away and is steeped in history. Many large department stores are situated there, most with the latest fashions etc. (at a price).
Originally Nantes was the capital of Brittany but in recent years this has changed and Brittany has been moved North. As a result Rennes is now the capital and the boundary passes only a few kilometers North of Blain.
Life in this part of France is very sedate, the word "hurry" is never used. Buying a loaf bread can be a morning out due to the custom of meeting and chatting to all and sundry (tous sans exception).
